The Centre for Media and Policy Research (CMPR) is a pioneering institution dedicated to the comprehensive study of the media’s role in society and governance. Based in Mumbai, the Centre is positioned to become a leading authority on the multifaceted implications of media in the contemporary world. A vibrant community of researchers, the CMPR brings together experts from across India to collaborate on innovative research.

Offering a comprehensive research ecosystem, from state-of-the-art laboratories to extensive digital library, the Centre provides essential resources, mentorship, and equipment to foster both academic and applied research. The Centre for Media and Policy Research (CMPR) is dedicated to examining critical areas within the media landscape, including development communication, media representation, ethics, fake news & misinformation, digital influence on public opinion. By conducting mixed method research, the CMPR aims to deliver evidence-based policy recommendations that promote media diversity, pluralism, and literacy. The Centre will disseminate findings through a quarterly report: ‘Media and Entertainment Outlook’ and foster collaborations among academia, industry, and government to drive positive change.

Envisioned by a team of academicians, media researchers & media consultants, the CMPR is founded on the principle of interdisciplinary and innovative research.

The Centre is structured into three primary wings:

The Rural and Folk Media Wing:

Dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and innovation of folk and rural media, this wing will explore the cultural and social significance of these traditions. The research centre is working on providing immersive experiences of folk traditions through the use of the latest technology.

The Audience Research Wing

Focused on understanding media consumption patterns, audience preferences, and the impact of media on individuals and communities.

Consultancy Wing

CMPR through its consultancy wing takes up media consultancy projects for industry and academia. Impact studies are also conducted under this centre.
